What Can I Fit in Storage?
This is one of the most common questions people ask us when they decide to rent storage. Here is a general size guide put together by the Store & Go Self Storage team:
5×5 unit: This storage is the size of a small closet. It fits a dresser, a small mattress set, and several small to medium-sized boxes.
5×10 unit: This storage is about the size of a small walk-in closet. It fits the furnishings of a mid-sized bedroom, including a queen-sized bed, a dresser, a TV and several small to medium-sized boxes.
10×10 unit: This is about the space of a large family room, or two extra bedrooms. This space is large enough for a mattress set, bookcases, tables and dressers, sofas and appliances.
10×15 unit: This storage can hold the contents of a three-bedroom house. There is plenty of room to store larger items such as pianos, couches, tables, or big screen TVs.
10×20 unit: This gives you two hundred square feet of room – that’s enough to store the contents of a four or five-bedroom house.
2 Useful Tips For Choosing The Right Sized Storage:
1. How often will you need to access the rental? For people who are going to store everything and just shut the door and come back in six months when they get their new place, they don’t need as big of space. However, if you need to access the space regularly, you will need an aisle, or else you will have to take everything out to find what you need.
2. Use Your Moving Truck As A Guide. If you’re using a moving truck, the truck’s dimensions can help you estimate how much total storage space you’ll need. The truck size is typically one size larger than the unit size you’ll need. So, if you have a 25-foot moving truck, you can fit your items into a 10×20. If you have a 20-foot truck, you need a 10×15. If you have a 15-foot truck, you’ll need a 10×10.
